Position OverviewThis is recreation work in the Parks, Recreation & Culture Department, involving planning, developing, coordinating, leading and evaluating health, wellness, fitness and recreational programmes and assisting a superior in coordinating and administering the operations and promotion of programmes within the Maple Ridge Leisure Centre. The work involves maintaining effective patron liaison, acting for a superior for short absences and within defined limits; providing leadership and instruction for Health, Wellness and Fitness programs; and recruiting, training and supervising part time and volunteer staff. The work requires the exercise of considerable independent judgment and action within the limits of applicable policies and procedures, and work performance is reviewed by a superior in terms of effectiveness and quality of supportive services provided. Education & Experience Completion of a post secondary program in Recreation or related field at a recognized institution and sound related community health, wellness and fitness experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Extensive experience working with the community, particularly in a fitness setting and a proven educational background in recreation is required. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Applicants will be required to obtain a criminal record search prior to hiring.Additional Information This position will be primarily responsible for drop in and registered health, wellness and fitness programs offered in the facilities operated by Parks, Recreation & Culture Department. Programs are developed in-house or in partnership with partners, clubs or community groups. The programmer must be willing and able to work evenings, weekends and special events. NCAA OR BCRPA certifications in weight training coach or group fitness is a definite asset. This is a temporary full time position of 40 hours per week. This is a temporary full-time position covering a maternity leave for approximately eighteen (18) months. This term may be shortened or extended due to circumstances unforeseen at the time of posting. The hours of work for this position are anticipated to be as governed under Note J - based on an eight (8) hour day, forty (40) hour week, may be required to work more than five (5) consecutive shifts in a week or more than forty (40) hours in a week without overtime rates being paid.
